Live Space

A sound reactive, projection mapped translucent wall. Video footage and real-world imagery are re-combined into never-repeating compositions, driven by music and ambient audio.

Details

This is a piece built to be responsive to ambient audio, and to create a room or space that turns that response into a visual spectacle.  It was designed to be flexible in shape and form.  the panels that make it up, can be assembled in any configuration.  In its first iteration, it was used to simultaneously block an unneeded space, control crowd flow, and create a bold entry space at a fundraising event.

The piece play a combination of real video, such as water and smoke, and generated content such as shapes, colors splashes, particles, and lines.  All of the changes in the composition are based on the meter of the music it is ‘listening’ to.  Some things change every few beats, others after 8, 16 or 128 bars.  Keeping in step with the music makes this piece good at reflecting and emphasizing the mood of the room.

Though it was on the opposite side of a large gallery space from the DJ’s, it could still ‘hear’ the music and provided a synchronized welcome to the event.  Many people ended up using it as a selfie station.
