Scott Keva James is a Seattle-based audio/visual artist, who works primarily with found imagery and light, using video and projection in real spaces. He has a keen interest in time, texture and flow. In his work lyrical patterns emerge and slide along the continuum between organic and inorganic, nature and artifice, abstract and concrete. Scott was born in Denver, but grew up in rural Washington, where he developed a lifelong connection to natural environments and natural systems.
In 2001 Scott joined Spaceboat.tv, performing at Seattle’s EMP and San Francisco MOMA. He collaborated on multiple installations and performances at Consolidated Works, and performed most years at Seattle’s Decibel Festival. Since co-founding The Now Device in 2004, he has provided creative direction to projects for symphony orchestras and clients like Xbox, Getty Images and Seattle Theater Group, and has worked with artists such as Chuck D. and John Legend.
HIs installations have been featured in light art festivals including, Lusio, Borealis, Portland Winter Light Festival, Luminata, Lumiere, Arts-A-Glow and Illuminate Springfield, as well as galleries and private events, mostly in the Seattle area. Since 2021 Scott has worked with Arts-A-Glow in Burien, WA to curate and manage other light artists for that festival.
Scott received a B.A. from Pomona College (including study at the Sorbonne in Paris), and a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Washington. Scott has lived primarily in Seattle Since the late 1980’s.
