Fluctuate

A 6.5 minute dance performance, with synchronized, projection-mapped imagery. Dancers wore flowing, caped costumes which they could open to ‘capture’ the projected visuals.

Details

Fluctuate, a collaboration with the Gary Geis Dance Company, integrated visuals with dance at City Hall in Springfield, OH. Dancers, attired uniformly in white, performed amid the backdrop of the outdoor venue. The imagery, which was custom designed for this piece, was scaled to fit the dancers, and kept simple to better show up in the location. The program was performed several times on two different evenings during the Illuminate Springfield festival.

Physically, the show was designed to accommodate a large audience and enable clear viewing from various angles. Projectors were strategically mounted above and behind the audience, ensuring optimal projection onto the dancers. The open-air setting of City Hall provided ample space for both performers and spectators. Fluctuate was performed by a group of young students and company members, who braved very cold, blustery weather.
